Plot Summary

The play is set in a small Nigerian village and centres on two generations. The young protagonist, Chukwudi, returns home after years in the city and discovers that his father, a retired civil servant who fought in the Biafran War, has been living a double life. Chukwudi learns that his father was involved in a secret relationship and that his mother was forced to leave the family. Through tense family confrontations, Chukwudi learns that his father killed a man during the war to protect his family and has been carrying the guilt ever since. The play ends with the father confessing everything to Chukwudi, who in turn chooses to break the cycle of silence by forgiving and moving forward. The title ‘So the Path Does Not Die’ refers to the importance of carrying the past forward without letting it destroy the present.
