FG Hails Successful NECO 2026 CBT Rollout, Assures No Student Will Be Left Behind

The Federal Government has applauded the successful implementation of the National Examinations Council (NECO) Computer-Based Test (CBT) for the 2026 Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE), describing the exercise as a significant step towards improving examination credibility and accelerating digital transformation in Nigeria's education sector.
Speaking after monitoring the examination in Abuja on Tuesday, the Honourable Minister of State for Education, Professor Suwaiba Sa'id Ahmad, expressed satisfaction with the smooth conduct of the CBT examination. According to the Minister, the examination was completed without major technical issues, while candidates adapted well to the new digital testing format.
Professor Ahmad explained that the adoption of CBT strengthens the integrity of public examinations by randomising questions, reducing opportunities for examination malpractice, and ensuring that students are assessed fairly based on merit.
She further assured Nigerians that the Federal Government would continue expanding CBT implementation across the country through a gradual and inclusive process. According to her, no student will be left behind because of poor infrastructure or limited access to technology.
The Minister disclosed that the Federal Ministry of Education is collaborating with the National Assembly, state governments, and private sector partners to improve CBT facilities and digital infrastructure nationwide, ensuring that all eligible candidates have equal opportunities to participate in future computer-based examinations.
Meanwhile, the Registrar of the National Examinations Council (NECO), Professor Ibrahim Dantani Wushishi, announced that 1,378,048 candidates registered for the 2026 Senior School Certificate Examination, with more than 700,000 female candidates participating in this year's examination.
Professor Wushishi also revealed that the 2026 NECO SSCE results are expected to be released by the first week of September 2026 or even earlier, providing reassurance to candidates awaiting admission processes and other academic opportunities.
The Federal Government reiterated its commitment to leveraging technology to strengthen examination integrity, improve learning outcomes, and build a globally competitive education system that meets international standards.
